LNM AIX media management
ITEM: RTA000053740
QUESTION:
With Token-Ring and 8229 (SNMP mode) can LNM for AIX get down to the
adapter level as LNM for OS/2 can, or do I need LNM for OS/2 V2 with the
proxy agent?
Customer has seen documentation that says LNM for AIX manages SNMP as
well as LLC devices. I was under the view that in only managed LLC vis
LNM for OS/2 V2 Proxy.

A: The 8229 offers LNM for AIX 2 different agents: one for bridge
management and one for token-ring media management of the connected
LANs. LNM for AIX (or the function within V2 of Nways Campus Manager
LAN for AIX) must be configured to use "TR Surrogate Agents" and
the IP address of the 8229 bridge can be supplied as an agent
(with LNM for AIX) - or, can optionally be discovered under Nways
Campus Manager - LAN. The TR surrogate agent within the 8229 (in
SNMP mode) provides REM, CRS and RPS in an IBM private MIB that
is understood only by the LNM application. This allows LNM (or
NCM LAN) to draw the NAUN configuration of the token-ring segments.
Note: This same private MIB is also supported by the IBM 8260
Intelligent Hub (thru the TMAC and DMM) but offers REM & CRS
without RPS.
