QUESTION:
Is there any way to issue a ring poll from the LNM for AIX function to
a managed 8229 in SNMP mode?
My account is replacing Andrews bridges with 8229s and getting
NV4AIX. A couple of their locations have 8228s and will
probably not migrate anytime soon. They currently are running LNM for
OS/2 and seeing the ring topology. They would like to get similar
function on LNM for AIX.

A: LNM for AIX (and the LNM function within the 5/96 V2 of Nways
Campus Manager - LAN for AIX) can communicate with an 8229 in SNMP
mode to get the token-ring configuration of connected LANs. This
is called the "SNMP TR Surrogate Agent" function and must be
enabled in the LNM installation (or NCM LAN).
