CICS: Running CICS/6000 with native DCE and/or Encina applications

ITEM: RTA000039424

Q: Question:

My user would like to run CICS/6000 (with DCE and ENCINA) on
the same machine with native DCE and Encina applications.
Is this supported? Does CICS/6000 use the same version of
DCE that's used separately for a DCE application?

Is it possible to back-up and restore CICS/6000 (with DCE
AND ENCINA) and the associated applications from one RS/6000
    to another?

R: Response:

CICS/6000 requires DCE and Encina as prerequisite products
for its operation. There are no problems with running DCE
and Encina based applications in conjunction with
    CICS/6000.

CICS/6000 will operate with any native DCE applications.
CICS/6000 can be backed-up with a CICS backup strategy or as
part of a complete machine backup.

A CICS backup would consist of exporting all the CICS/6000
resource definitions plus associated Encina SFS and
Logserver data which hold CICS files and recovery
information. Restoration of these files and importing the
CICS region would result in returning to the same state as
that at which the backup occurred.

A machine backup would save the contents of all of the AIX
system such that it could later be restored. The AIX system
backup tools will only backup the "rootvg" logical volume.
Encina SFS and Logserver volumes would have to be backed up
separately using the AIX "dd" command.

A full discussion of CICS/6000 backup and recovery
considerations are documented in a Transaction Systems
SupportPac. This may be obtained by issuing the command:

Additional packages on this disk may be obtained. A list of
available packages may be found by issuing:

It is possible to backup CICS/6000, DCE and Encina and
restore on another machine but the TCP/IP address of the
target machine must be the same as the TCP/IP address of the
    original machine.
