ATM and NetView for AIX
ITEM: RTA000086303
If a machine has "only" an ATM adapter on it,
can NetView for AIX "run" and "use that adapter".
ANSWER:
In my discussions with the ATM people in our group, it appears to be
that ATM is transparent to the products using IP.
So: Yes -- after ATM configuration/setup has occurred -- NetView for
AIX would run "as usual".
There may be some MIB variables available for ATM that assist in
NetView for AIX activities -- and, I will check with development
to see what the status of testing/using NetView for AIX in an
ATM environment is -- but, as far as I can determine: you will
be ok if the RS6K only has an ATM adapter on it. I assume most
users will have a gateway from the ATM to the non-ATM arena; that
would be business as usual.
From development:
We believe everything will work without modification by NV4AIX.
Can you respond to this one? The only catch I can see is that the mac
in ATM is larger. We need to change this for our SNMP bridge application
when the ATM bridge ships, but from a Netview/6k adapter perspective I
believe everything should work. I can't recall any problems moving from
TR to FDDI so I don't see why ATM would create any problems.
