Polling and Status Expression of RABM/6000
ITEM: RTA000069806
I'd like to know about the AIX Router and Bridge Manager/6000.
Q1. Does RABM poll each 6611 by itself? Or does RABM only request
"netmon" daemon to poll 6611s?
Q2. In the polling list window, we can see colored symbols of routers.
The colors are red, green yellow, blue, brown and these might
vary as each router's status.
But do these colors reflect the marginal and values critical values
specified in the system, interface and protocol slices
for each node?
Or do the colors of symbols in the polling list express the status
of the IP interfaces in each node, like NetView/6000?
ANSWER
There is now a RABM6000 category that you can use for
Router and Bridge Manager/6000 questions.
Answer #1
RandB Manager/6000 uses the ovSNMP API provided by NV/6000 to poll the
nodes directly. A node must have been discovered by NV/6000 before
it can be monitored by RandB Man. Once discovered, RandB Man keeps the
node in a poll list and queries each node based on the user configured
poll interval.
The online Users Guide describes the algorithm for combining status
at the System, Protocol, and Interface Slice levels. Search on
'System Slice', 'Protocol Slice', and 'Interface Slice' in the Users
Guide for details.
ANSWER # 2, The 6611
color coded status on the Polling List screen is "aggregate" status of
the entire router (system + interfaces + protocols), and not just IP
connectivity status. Hence, the value of RandB Man over NV/6000 is
enormous and specific to the router.
