On a System Monitor Extended MIB
ITEM: RTA000086398
My customer is monitoring the following MIB extended by AIX System
Monitor/6000 V1R2 and has some questions.
.1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.12.2.9.3.2.1.6
sm6kSystemUtilizationIostatTransfers(Average Number of Transfers)
Q1.Is this MIB value equal to the 'tps' value gotten by
'iostat'command?
Q2. If Q1 is false, please let me know more detail information for this
MIB variable.
Sorry for such a minute question. However we don't have enough
information to answer for such questions about MIBs' details...
ANSWER
The IostatTransfers variable is the number of IO transfers within each
of the monitoring intervals. The MIB object has 6 instances, representing
intervals of 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes
and one hour (see the IostatIntervalStartTime and IostatIntervalLength
variables in the same table).
Note that:
1. This is not the same as the tps (transfers per second) value given
by iostat. To get an equivalent value you would have to divide each
IostatTransfers instance by the corresponding interval length
2. The description field in the MIB is incorrect. It says that the figure
is the average number of kilobytes transferred, where it should say
the number of transfers in the time interval
