6611 Management Router & Bridge Program too slow

ITEM: RTA000069084

A customer has the Router&Bridge program installed on Netview/6000 V2.
They also have the MPMP Configuation program installed (product:
5648-016). When both of these products are started from the 'tools'
menu the customer complains that they they tooooo long to start.
The RS is a 560 and they have 64 MB RAM. The SE who installed these
products is now away on holidays for 3 weeks, so I am not so well
informed of any tuning that have might have taken place either on
NV/6000, AIX 3.2.5 or these respective products.
I have to admit that I know fairly enough about NV/6000 but have no
knowledge of Router&Bridge pgm (6611) and MPMP Conf. Pgm.

My guess is that AIX has not been tuned since installation, i.e. mbuffs
(and so on). My questions are: Where do you recommend me to start?
Should I start tuning AIX and TCPIP.
Are there tuning requirements for NV/6000 when installing these
products?
What experience do you have with these products and there performance?

ANSWER

Ensure you have enough paging space; generally, paging and memory would
be reasons for your getting an indication that a NetView/6000 application
would take "tooooooo long" to start.

However, I am sure there are MANY contributors to "toooooooo long".

I am not sure if there are going to be any "quick" answers to such a
question -- but, I will leave this question open and see if there are
people in our group who can give you some hints.

Sometime, find out what "toooooo long" is and what the managed-config is.

Development came back with the following:

RABM requires a min of 64M of ram. If the box is tuned well for
NV/6k, RABM tends to run well. One suggestion might be to bring
down the MPNP config tool while running RABM & NV/6k. Both the
MPNP config tool and RABM /w NV/6k tend to chew up cycles and
impact the performance of one another.

Verify that the box runs well w/ NV/6k, then w/ RABM. If not,
then tune AIX, NV/6k (snmp configuration). If it runs well,
it may just be that it can't take NV/6k, RABM, and the config
 tool at once.
