I want to use Exabyte 0840-001 on RS6000 without using
either Legato or Unitree, because I use a specific relationnal
database product.
How can I get the driver able to pilot robotic commands
of the tape system (seek tape, autoload ...) and the documentation
associated without ordering this product ?
Does it exist on any forum system ?

I have contacted the Storage Management group at the 214-280-1320
number in Dallas. This is really a two part problem as far as
they were concerned. The jukebox (tape loading and switching)
function is provided by the robotic device driver. Also, the
tape drive within the jukebox requires a device driver. This
group can provide either or both device drivers, depending on
the configuration.
NOTE: I was informed that various Exabyte tape drives can be
used in the Jukebox. So, for a customized tape drive/jukebox
configuration you may need a different device driver for the
tape drive.
The Storage Management group will provide a customized solution
(sending you a device driver), but they require a detailed
description of what the customer is actually trying to achieve.
They also need to know which tape drive hardware is involved so
that they can send the correct tape drive device driver(s) that
best meets the customer's needs.
Documentation for the robotic (jukebox) driver is provided with
the diskette. This documentation provides commands, command
structures, and installation procedures. If a driver is also
ordered for the tape drive, documentation will be provided
for installation.
NOTE: Using the AIX "Other SCSI Tape Drive" device driver will
not allow use of the compression feature of the 0840-001.
However, you may use this tape device driver. To achieve full
functionality, you need the jukebox module for autoloading, and
the appropriate tape drive device driver.
The FORUM systems do not have the documentation for the robotic
device driver.
You should contact the Storage Management group if you need
clarification on this subject or further assistance in obtaining
this device driver and its documentation.
