HACMP and upgrading to 3.2.5
ITEM: RTA000072395
I have a customer that wants to upgrade from AIX 3.2.4 to 3.2.5 on
their 2 front-end machines mod. 980s (mutual takeover). I want to
double
check if you see any problems by allowing one of the RS model 980 do a
takeover while installing a PMP in the other.
Is there any AIX 3.2.5 upgrade code or situations I should be cautious
of during the upgrade? If you have any special procedure I should be
aware of for the upgrade, please describe.
ANSWER
I do not anticipate any problem with this upgrade in your cluster. I have
done an upgrade from AIX 3.2.4 to AIX 3.2.5 in my test cluster in this
way and have not had a problem. A general procedure is:
1. Shut down HACMP (for takeover - both for now and restart) on Node A.
This will allow you the flexibility to do some reboots during your
later testing on Node A without worrying about HACMP starting up
automatically before you are ready.
2. Once takeover is complete, install the PMP on Node A.
3. Reboot, test, etc. on Node A.
4. When satisfied, start up HACMP on Node A.
5. Shut down HACMP (for takeover - both for now and restart) on Node B.
6. When takeover complete, install PMP on Node B.
7. Reboot, test, etc. on Node B.
8. When satisfied, start up HACMP on Node B.
Once you get to AIX 3.2.5, you might also want to install the
latest cumulative fix for HACMP at that level. As of April 14, 1994,
these fix numbers are:
HACMP Version 1.2 - U421400
HACMP Version 2.1 - U428047
