HACMP without LAN
ITEM: RTA000068008
My customer needs HACMP for high availability but has only X25 as
network, and the RS232 required.
If he has no need of LAN, is the LAN required for HACMP (I mean , Do I
have to add Ethernet or Token Ring adapter in each node, only for
HACMP needs)?
Is a LAN required for HACMP ? Can I have only a RS232 between the nodes
ANSWER
Unfortunately with the HACMP product as it exists today, a configuration
as you describe, with no LAN, and communications to the clients over an
X.25 network, would not be a supported configuration. In the HACMP 1.2
PLET, the following statement is made:
LIMITATIONS: AIX High Availability Cluster Multi-Processing/6000 is
designed to support client users on a LAN using the TCP/IP protocol.
HACMP/6000 monitors only the following TCP/IP based communications
adapters on cluster nodes:
- Token-Ring
- FDDI
- Ethernet
- SOCC
If you feel that X.25 support is necessary in the product, you can alert
development by submitting a Program Alteration System Request (PASR) via
your HONE system.
