20000 users defined on AIX ?

Could you please help me answering those questions for my customer.

1/ Is it possible to define 20000 users on AIX (3.2.5 or 4.1.1) and
use the mkpasswd command to organize the basic user database for
   efficient searches.
To prevent the bad performances at login time if the user identifies
himself with an incorrect userid (see QA document ELSSECVD0DEZ in
AIX6000 GENR) would it be possible to use /etc/passwd.pag,
/etc/passwd.dir and then reduce the /etc/passwd to the strict
   minimum.

2/ Is it possible to use NIS in the context describe above ?

3/ Could you tell me if FTP is using /etc/passwd.pag and
/etc/passwd.dir at logging time (assuming those files were created).

ANSWER
The mkpasswd command speeds access to the /etc/passwd file by
creating database files of /etc/passwd (/etc/passwd.pag and
/etc/passwd.dir). These database files are used when the
modification time of them is greater then the modification time
    of /etc/passwd.

With this in mind, the reduction of the /etc/passwd file would
make its modification time greater then the passwd.pag and .dir
and these database files would not be used.

You could use NIS, but if I am understanding your environment, this
sounds like you are only using one machine. You would only want to
use NIS for a multiple of machines so that the passwd files on each
    machine are updated for you.

FTP uses the getpsnam and getpwuid, this would cause FTP to use the
    passwd.pag and passwd.dir files.
