Vmstat after migration ti AIX 4.1
ITEM: RTA000079132
After having migrated from AIX 3.2.5 to 4.1 the vmstat command does
not seem to work. The command "vmstat 5 5" gives the error message:
"lseek: Invalid argument". What is wrong?
ANSWER
In the past and on 3.2 systems this has been caused by the boot
image being incorrect or corrupted. The suggested method of
recovery is to run "bosboot -a -d /dev/hdisk#, where hdisk# is
your boot disk. This will rebuild hd5. Then reboot and see
if this fixes the problem. Also, make sure you are at AIX 4.1.1
as this is the latest level of 4.1 and would fix problems found
in 4.1.0.
Question........:
Thanks for the answer| I ran the bosboot -a -d/dev/hdisk0 and rebooted
but it didn't help. According to my CDROM I am running 4.1.1.
Any other suggestions?
ANSWER
R: Im not sure why this is not working, but as I said before it is
usually an incompatibility with the kernel. Check to what
/unix is linked. If this is an uniprocessor, (I assume it is
since it was originally at 3.2) then this should be linked to
/usr/lib/boot/unix_up other wise, unix_mp. If you still have
this problem, please respond with the model of the RS/6000 and
if the other performance commands work, such as, iostat and sar.
Thank You.
