Different max size of jfs filesyst. on AIX 3.2.5 ver. 4.1
ITEM: RTA000079000
I believe there will be no problem exporting a non root VG created on
a 3.2.5 system and then import it on an AIX 4.1 system. I think this
will be the way to do it when our customers start their migration
to AIX 4.1. But can you EXPAND a jfs filesystem CREATED on AIX 3.2.5
to a size BEYOND 2BG which is the limit on 3.2.5??
ANSWER
I found that one can expand a jfs filesystem created on AIX 3.2.5 to a
size beyond 2GB when you import them to an AIX 4.1 system. Today, I
unmounted, and transfered two 670MB hard drives from an AIX 3.2.5 system
to a AIX 4.1 system which already contained a 1GB hard drive. This made
a total of 2.34GB of hard drive space. Thereafter, I used the importvg
command to import the volume group. Next, I varied the volume group
using the varyonvg command. I then mounted the filesystem.
Finally, I allocated another 1.1GB for the filesystem to make a total
of 2.2GB for the filesystem. It was successful.
Therefore, you can expand a jfs filesystem created on AIX 3.2.5 to a
size beyond 2GB when you import it to an AIX 4.1 system.
