Disabling the quorum protection.
ITEM: RTA000072274
I would like to know about disabling the quorum protection.
My understanding of the way to disable quorum is issuing the
command "# chvg -a y -Q n rootvg" or executing this command
using SMIT. And I followed this procedure:
(1) Executing chvg command.
# chvg -a y -Q n rootvg
(We can also execute chvg command using SMIT.)
(2) Checking the status using lsvg command.
# lsvg rootvg
(3) We have to reboot the system after disabling the quorum.
# shutdown -Fr
(4) Checking above operation using lsvg command.
# lsvg rootvg
But although after issuing chvg command the status of
"# lsvg rootvg" shows that quorum is disabled successfully,
once the system is rebooted the status of this command changes
and quorum remains enable again.
(Q) Are any other operations needed to keep quorum disable after
rebooting the system?
The version of AIX is 3.2.3E.
ANSWER
The steps you have followed to disable quorum checking are
correct and worked on our test machines here. I researching
the commands used in the System Management Guide (SC23-2457)
use the following commands to disable quorum checking for
the rootvg:
1) chvg -Qn rootvg
2) shutdown -r
If the VG that you are disabling quorum on is not rootvg, then
if the VG is active while disabling quorum, then the VG will need
to be varied off and varied back on for the change to take effect.
1) chvg -Qn uservg
2) varyoffvg uservg
3) varyonvg uservg
If the VG was not active when quorum was disabled, then you will
only need to vary the VG back on.
1) chvg -Qn uservg
2) varyonvg uservg
If this does not solve your problem you may need to talk with
the defect support people and open a PMR.
