Error notify Object Class and Error ID
ITEM: RTA000071047
According to the manual "Problem Solving Guide & Reference"(SC23-
2403-03, Page 7-12), the Error Knotification Object Class contains
some descriptors including ERROR ID. But looking into this object
class by odme command, the field of the descriptor "ERROR ID" cannot
be shown. Other descriptors mentioned in the manual are all displayed.
When to add a user-defined Notify Method to one specific error,
I'm afraid I cannot assciate this method with certain error, as
far as I cannot specify the Error ID with the method.
For example, when to add 1 entry to this class, I can specify
an Error Label associated with 1 method. But some errors have the
same label, and the method I added might be executed when the samely
labeled errors take place.
Q1. Missing the "Error ID" field in "errnotify" object class is
defect? Or any change with the specification?
My AIX is 3.2.5.
Q2. If Q1 isn't defect, how do I do to define 1 method to 1 specific
error?
ANSWER
The Error ID field in the odm object class 'errnotify' does exist
in AIX 3.2.5. On our systems we are at 3.2.5 and here is how I
changed the Error ID field.
First of all the Error ID field we seek is not labeled 'error_id'
but it called 'en_crcid'. This field in the object class can be
set to a specific error id as noted in the '/usr/include/sys/errids/h'
file or set to 0 to catch all ID associated with a Label.
To change the Error Id field I performed the following:
1) odme /etc/errnotify
2) Retrieve/Edit
3) Tab once to the 'en_crcid' column and type the error id into the
appropriate field for the error you want to monitor.
That should do it, by the way the 'en_crcid' column is on the very
left of the screen after you hit the TAB key once in the
Retrieve/Edit screen.
