Prestoserve and AIX V3.2.5
ITEM: RTA000070678
My customer as a Prestoserve Adapter installed and wanted to
upgrade his Serversysten from 3.2.4 to 3.2.5 (has 250 Diskless Clients)
After the installation we tried to install Prestoserve again and it
worked. There was only one major mistake| I can't use the tape.
After deinstallation of Prestoserve everything worked fine.
In the Prestoserver Manual is an entry that only 3.2.3 and 3.2.4
is supported and this seems to be write. Need support for 3.2.5.
ANSWER
I have found several reports of problems with Prestoserve and
AIX 3.2.5, and each workaround contain this series of steps
from Legato. Please try these steps and see if the problem
persists.
Step
1) run the /etc/presto.cleanup command. This will remove the
prestoserve software from the machine.
2) Shutdown.
3) Remove the prestoserve card.
4) Complete Part1 of the Prestoserve installation.
5) Shutdown.
6) Add the Prestoserve card to the machine and power up.
7) Type the following command.
odmget -q "uniquetype = adapter/mca/pr" PdAt > /tmp/odm1
8) Edit the file /tmp/odm1 and modify the stanza PdAt as follows:
uniquetype = "adapter/mca/pr"
attribute = "size"
deflt = "0x100000"
values = "0x100000"
width = "0x100000"
type = "M"
generic = "D"
rep = "nl"
nls_index = 2
and change width,type and rep to:
width = ""
type = "R"
rep = "n"
9) Save the file
10) enter the following at the system prompt:
odmdelete -o CuAt -q "name = pr0"
odmdelete -o CuDv -q "name = pr0"
odmdelete -o PdAt -q "uniquetype = adapter/mca/pr"
odmadd /tmp/odm1
11) Reboot the system and it should come back with pr0 in the
state.
12) Enter the prinstall command to complete Part 2 of the
Prestoserve installation.
13) Now check if the problem reported can be reproduced.
