AIX for embedded systems
ITEM: RTA000064235
I've got some customers that are developing embedded systems; bus-
computer, GPS, automatic tolling equipment, fire alarms ...
I'm looking for information on if it's possible to use PowerPC
processors and som kind of run-time kernel for AIX. The objective
is to have a operating system that support multitasking and can be
booted from ROM (PROM or EPROM) or static RAM.
ANSWER
Unfortunately, this is beyond the scope of this support center. Some
books that may help in the process are:
(SA23-2737-00)
PowerPC and Power2, Technical Aspects of the New IBM RISC System/6000
This contains some good information on the PowerPC chip and
other good information.
(MAPC601UM/AD)
PowerPC 601 RISC Microprocessor User's Manual.
Available from your local Motorola outlet.
Some other available ways would be to submit a Request for Price
Quote (RPQ) on your HONE system, or post on some of the IBM forums
that deal with th PowerPC.
