VSAM-like alternatives on AIX

  I have customer that is looking for a keyed access method such                
as VSAM for the RS/6000 with support for COBOL, and, if possible, C.            
Transactional capabilities would also be desirable.                             
  Although SFS might be a solution, due to its pre-reqs                         
(ENCINA BASE, ENCINA SERVER, DCE), the customer discarded this                  
alternative. So the question is what are the alternatives ? I                   
have checked C-TREE to no avail, since it only supports C.

IBM AIX VS COBOL/6000 comes with an early level of CISAM from INFORMIX          
which Micro Focus had the rights to.  It has been modified to meets             
the needs of VS COBOL record locking requirements.                              
Details are on p9-26 of the User's Guide (note: library libisam.a).             
CISAM is written in C and is usable from C.                                    
                                                                                
You will need the INFORMIX "CISAM" documentation.                               
It is important to note that the INFORMIX CISAM will be at a higher             
update/release level.                                                           
                                                                                
By the way, we strongly recommend that customers switch to                      
the Micro Focus version of COBOL and stop using IBM's as it is no               
longer marketed. Also, support will cease in the near future.                   
The Micro Focus COBOL is much more advanced and of better quality.
