Timed and DCE/Time service (dtsd)
ITEM: RTA000071374
We have some problem when configuring DCE on a machine running timed :
dtsd refuses to start correctly. After many investigations, we've
finished to stop timed and we've reconfigured DCE. And now DCE
seems working well. But this machine has to be the master server
for timed in the network.
My question is: can timed coexist with dce/dtsd ?
How can we get rid of this problem if not ?
ANSWER
It seems to me that you would not want to have timed running as a
"client" while also using dts as a clerk. I will check w/development
on the interaction of using timed as a master while using the dts as
a clerk....
Here is our answer from development:
"We have observed problems with AIX when more than one process
is attempting to adjust the clock. At one time we had the
kernel panic when running timed and dtsd. Since there should
only be one process setting the clock we put a time lock
mechanism into the DTSD so that it would not run if any other
time daemons that use the same locking mechanism were
running..."
