How to customize the login screen in AIX 4.1.4?
ITEM: RS4000013476
Question........:
My customer wants to replace the regular IBM login screen on his rs6k
with his own logo screen. I read that this was possible under AIX 3.1
and 3.2 but, I am not very sure of this on 4.1. Could you please give
me the steps needed to accomplish this task? Thanks in advance for -
your valuable help.

For an ascii login you could customize two files:
1) /etc/security/login.cfg
edit a stanza
defport:
herald = "String you want"
So you will able to change the default message:
AIX Version 4 - (C) Copyrights by IBM .... - login:
2) /etc/motd
Edit directly the message of the day
For the CDE login, copy the /usr/dt/config/Xresources file to
/etc/dt/config and edit it. See in GREETINGS and MISC parts.

Question........:
I have done as you suggested but, the login screen in the console is no
t working well. When we logoff, it does not clear the screen and overwr
rites whatever was on the screen. If we do telnet, it displays ok. Any
ideas or suggestions about this?

I think your problem is related to step 1 i.e. to the herald.
If you want to erase the screen or to write more than one row you have
to insert \n AND an enter key (if you use vi, for write an enter you
have to inser control-V and then enter), so the stanza will look like
herald = "First row\n.MSecond row"
