Multiprotocol adapter performance
ITEM: RS4000015399
**************> QUESTION level 1 --> level 2 SPECIALIST <**************
Question:
Is it advisable to use the 4 ports of a Multiprotocol adapter
in the following way:
2 EIA232 at 19.2Kbps
2 V35 at 64Kbps
Or do we have to expect performance problems?
According to the documentation I've read it's possible but
is it also acceptable from a performance point of view?
Thanks for your help, best regards, Marina.

Response:
That is correct, having: 2 EIA232 at 19.2Kbps
2 V35 at 64Kbps
on the Multiprotocol adapter is a viable configuration. As far as
the performance of the adapter, this will be largely dependent on
the system environment. Some things we can be sure of are:
o Each of the 4 ports in the Multiprotocol adapter are independent
of each other.
o Each interface, EIA232 and V35, was designed to transfer data at
19.2Kbps and 64Kbps, respectively.
The data transfer rate when using V35 (64Kbps) will not be affected
by the data transfer rate of EIA232 (19.2Kbps) since these protocols
will be operating on independent ports as mentioned above.
Thank you for using AIX Technical Support.
