HLLAPI and HCON
ITEM: RS4000015369
Question........:
We would like to know if there is a way to intercept the 3270 buffer
received from host by a program using HCON via HLLAPI
without (this is a MUST) showing it on the display.
The application program must be able to process the content of the
buffer and, depending on its data, must decide either to display it or
to discard it.
Thanks in advance for your support.

The HLLAPI/HCON function support are all described in the HCON manual
"3270 HOST CONNECTION PROGRAM 2.1 AND 1.3.2 FOR AIX" Guide and
Reference. Chapter four (High level language application programming
interface) convers all the functions in detail. Functions relating
to "Presentation Space" would be of the most interest to you.
Also there are third party software that allows you similar features.
If you need additioal information, please call me. Mike D.

New question:
Unfortunately the "3270 HOST CONNECTION PROGRAM 2.1 AND 1.3.2 FOR AIX"
Guide is not detailed enough: we need to capture the datastream sent
by host to handle it by application and then decide if we want to
display
it on video or to print and discard it. Is this possible?
Can you please help us? It's impossible for us to call you at
800-CALLAIX but if you send us a vnet address we can send
you a note if you prefer. Thanks a lot. Best regards, Marina.

Response:
Because of the type of item this is, the hcon l3 group couldn't
enter the response directly, but I spoke with them. There is not
a way using hllapi, g32, or hcon to intercept the data before it
appears on the user's 3270 screen. The only way to do that with
an IBM AIX product is to write your own 3270 emulator with the SNA
LU2 api. For more information on the LU2 api, please refer to
SNA Server for AIX Transaction Program Reference, pub number
SC31-8112. Thanks.
