Question:                                                                       
a customer ordered the 4-Port Multiprotocol adapter for ISA bus                 
(#2701)                                                                         
He received an adapter with a label on it:                                      
Multiport/2 1MB (Sounded to me as adapter #7004)                                
I have not been able to get the adapter available, when configuring             
it I get an error message: device error - unable to configure                   
parent device.                                                                  
I supposed the adapter was the wrong one and ordered a new one,                 
again customer received the same adapter. At this point I'm no longer           
sure that it's not the correct one.                                             
Can you help me identify the adapter? Is it correct that the                    
4-Port Multiprotocol adapter has that strange label on is?                      
By the way, in AIX4.1.4 CD-ROM I've not been able to find the                  
device driver for device.isa.8f70 (equivalent of device.mca.8f70).              
I could only find device.isa.mm2, this of course increased my                   
doubt˘˘˘                                                                        
Please, I need urgently to find out if my customer has the right                
adapter and if yes, what problem can I have in configuring it.

 According to information in                                                    
 http://dr_zook.mtlisc.can.ibm.com/wwwdocs/RSINFO/4portISA.html,                
 card #2701 will have a part numbers 33F8967, 84F7540,                          
 and/or 53F2662.  One or more of these numbers should be visible               
 on the card.  The WWW page also says 'devices.isa.mm2' is the                  
 correct device driver s/w.  It also has a DIP switch settings                  
 chart.  The settings for the first adapter are:

 There is no such thing as 'devices.isa.8f70'.  The 8f70                        
 is an identifier which is used by microchannel only.                           
                                                                                
 My sources suggest doing the following:                                        
    1) remove s/w 'devices.mca.8f70'                                            
          installp -r 'devices.mca.8f70*'                                       
       There is known problem with having this code on an ISA machine           
    2) install s/w 'devices.isa.mm2' at latest PTF level                       
          U442898 & U443408 for AIX V4.1.4                                      
          U442401 & U442142 for AIX V4.1.5                                      
          U446062 for AIX V4.2                                                  
    3) power off AIX machine                                                    
    4) check switch settings                                                    
    5) verify card is in an ISA slot, not a PCI slot                            
    6) power on AIX machine                                                     
                                                                                
You may also want to run the onboard diagnostics to see if                      
they can detect the card.                                                       
                                                                                
If the customer's machine is an E30 or F30 and the line is                      
is switched (dial-up) then they may need IX61516/IX62664 also.
