Thewall and MAX MBUFS
ITEM: RS4000014526
**************> QUESTION level 1 --> level 2 SPECIALIST <**************
Question:
Environment AIX 4.1.4
Communications Server for AIX 4.1
no -a gives thewall=6140
Looking in SMIT/System Environments/Change / Show Characteristics of
Operating System we have:
Maximum Kbytes of real memory allowed for MBUFS = 4096
Shouldn't these 2 parameters be the same? It was in AIX 3.2 with
SNA SERVER 2.1
Could you please explain this mismatch?
Thanks in advance, best regards, Marina.

This is more of an AIX BOS question than a SNA question, AIX
BOS 'owns' mbufs, SNA is just a 'user' of mbufs, like tcp/ip.
The 'no' command is supposed to be for the currently running
system, the 'smit chgsys' or the 'chdev -l sys0 -a maxmbuf=XXX'
is supposed to be the values used after the next reboot.
They can have different values, depending on the order of
when the two commands where run. If they don't have
the same value after a reboot then something is wrong.
If you find that after a reboot these values still do not
match, then you are probably looking at a code defect.
Please report this using your code defect procedures.
