trying to run tcpip on model 720, 40p

Question:

trying to run tcpip on model 720, 40p

Response:

Env: 4.1.2 model 40p
Desc: on 40p, customer has auto 16 token ring adapter configured
on sp/2, can ping itself but can't ping outher machines,
he sees MAU open and close but can't get through MAU.
customer wants to know the correct parameters to configure
      the adapter for 40p.
Act: this is ibm adapter, part number 92g7632, the product
description is ibm auto 16/4 token ISA adapter.
     .
Customer says this adapter can be configured on model 43p.
This adapter needs to be configured on another machine (i.e.
PS/2) then put into 40p. He needs someone to assist him
to configure it with correct parameter for using on 40P.
Next: requeueing to commo for assistance.

Response:

Customer does not have the old adapter which allows for DIP switch
settings. It is the "new" adapter in which settings are saved via
FLASH ROM. The part number for the adapter is 92G7637.

Response:

Found some info.....

The T/R adapter with the FLASH ROM settings is not supported on the 40P.
The T/R adapter with the DIP switch settins is supported on the 40P.

Gene has two options:

1) Return the adapter and get the supported one.
2) Install the adapter in a PS/2, run the configuration utility, then
install the adapter in the 40P.

I have left phonemail for Gene with this information. If he calls back,
someone can pass this info to him.

Customer was able to configure the adapters by disabling "auto-sense".
From then on, he was able to configure a dozen more machines in this
way.
