Problems creating mksysb backup

Env:
  AIX 4.1.2

Desc:
  Problems creating mksysb backup, fails with the following errors:
    0511-432: A write error occurred.  A system call received a
       parameter that is not valid. 
    0511-079: The backup media is damaged.

Action:
  Searched Xmenu and this is a known problem at 4.1.2 and the
  suggested workaround is to set 'extended filemarks' on when
  using 8mm tape.

  Followed suggested workaround is to to change the attributes
  of the tape drive and set extened filemarks on.  After making the
  recommended changes, the error still occurred.

  Installing APAR IX49346 (which is supposed to resolve this
  problem) and are still unable to create mksysb backup, receiving 
  the same error as before.

  Using 5gb 8mm tape with block size set to 1024.

  Set extended filemarks on and tried again and it failed once
  again.

  Set block size to 512 and it are now able to create mksysb
  backup.
