Is AIX X.25 V 1.1 (LPP) supported on SP2?

Question:
Is the AIX X.25 V 1.1 licensed program product (LPP) supported on the
IBM SP2?

Answer:
Yes it is. In terms of hardware, you must adhere to the hardware
limitations outlined in the IBM i-listed RPQs for SP2:

     - 8K1934 (X.25 Co-Processor) dated 3/2/95
     - 8K1935 (Portmaster) dated 3/2/95

As far as software is concerned, AIX X.25 development will officially
support this environment as long as you are running AIX 3.2.5 or
AIX 4.1.2 and the prerequisite PTFs that we require for any other
RISC System/6000.

Response:

This has been interesting. I did some research and found that the SP2
processor group is listed as P5 and, unfortunately, there is no P5 category
listed (for pricing) in the announcement letter for AIX 3.2.5. (SP2
requires AIX 3.2.5, so our AIX 4.1 X.25 LPP wouldn't work.)

The configurator did let you order it, but at the G5 price. When you
submitted the "feedback" to the configurator, they said that the support
was going to be available in April -- which isn't really true. The
AIX X.25 LPPs are planned to be made available in April, but this doesn't
relate to their support of SP2 systems.

You are going to try to get the Configurator folks in contact with
the Austin folks so they can determine the correct story. In the mean-
time, we'll try to give the Austin folks an idea of what's going on
on the ordering front.

Stay tuned....
