Getting missing header block errors with sysback ver 3
Response:
Env: AIX 3.2.5
RISC 380
Tape: 8mm 5gb (7208-011)
sysback 3.1.0.27
Desc:
Customer is restoring from a sysback full system backup.
and is getting the following errors.
Missing Header Block - Attempt to Resync after error,
Resync @ file: filename
He states that he is getting multiple filenames with this message
repeated.
Action:
The customer has another 3.2.5 system with a tape drive.
The customer was able to verify the data on the system with
the sysrestore -lf /dev/rmt0 -vrootvg
(This worked correctly)
It sounds like the problem with the libc.a and fwrite at
3.2.5R. (3.2.5 E3 Oct '94 Release Notes 1.3)
I am having the customer create bosboot (sysback) diskettes
on the system he could read and verify the backup on.
1. Create diskettes (other system)
2. boot system off of diskettes
3. change input device to tape drive
4. start the install
I am going to have the customer check for these ptfs:
A problem was found in AIX 3.2.5 Enhancement 3 with the fwrite
subroutine in libc. A technical description of the problem
follows. This problem exists in the following AIX 3.2.5 PTFs:
U432990, U433061, U433288, U433563, U433872, U434069
The problem is fixed in PTF U434513, which is currently available.
When sysback ver 3 reads the data it uses this method:
sbread | restore
The sbread command uses the fwrite to send the data to stdout
So since the fwrite command is messed up it will cause the data
to look corrupt even though the data is not.
NOTE: The data is not corrupt!!!!!!!!!
Response:
The customer called back the system rebooted up fine.
The cutomer had ptf U433288 on his system so I ordered
ptf U434997 which is the supercede U434513 for for the customer.
THE FOLLOWING PTFS HAVE BEEN ORDERED:
U434997 (3250)
EVERYTHING HAS BEEN ORDERED
