How do I restore files from a SPO tape.
ENV:
RISC: 25T AIX: 3.2.5 CDROM: InforExplorer DataBase.
WINDOWS: X11 R5 TAPE: 8mm 2.3 gb
PROBLEM:
The customer can't run infoexplorer, the file /usr/bin/info
has been accidently deleted. The customer does not
have any system backups. He has never made a mksysb or
ever attempted to backup his /usr filesystem.
All the customer has is a 3.2.5 SPO tape that was
used to install the system. Is there a way to restore
the necessary files from the 3.2.5 SPO tape?
ANSWER:
Yes that will be possbile.
A SPO tape is setup in this manner:
FILE IMAGE DESCRIPTION
1 bosboot
2 mkinsttape
3 Table of Contents
4 tar of bos.obj (Used when the system is initial
installed)
5- LPPs and PTFs
1. Put the SPO tape in the drive
2. chdev -l rmt0 -a block_size=512
3. tctl -f /dev/rmt0.1 fsf 3
4. tar -xvf /dev/rmt0 ./usr/bin/info
