What is the difference between the FDDI 2720 and 2724?

Question:

What software is needed to support the FDDI adapters?
Can two FDDI adapters be supported in the 990 and the 570?

Response:
Note: The following 4 digit numbers are feature codes for the products
that are referenced in the following response.

The 2720 and the 2724 provide equivalent function.
The 2722 and the 2723 provide equivalent function.
The first group of fddi cards which include 2720 and 2722 use
"through hole" technology to mount components on the board.
The newer group of cards, 2723 and 2724, use surface mount technology to mount
components on the board. The latter technology allows more efficient packaging
of the cards. The external connections and the function of the cards are the
same.
The software component needed for the cards is 5054 and is part of AIX, however,
the fddi component is separately orderable and installable.
