CRSH/LVM: Problems allocating PP's from disk drive

Question:

AIX 3.2.5 RISC System/6000 model 970. I have added a drive to my
system and now when I try to extend filesystems, I get a warning:

warning: physical volume 18 is excluded since it may be missing
            or removed

When I try to list the Physical Volume (PV), I get an error:

0516-320 PV XXXXXXXXXXXXXX is not assigned to a volume group

When I list the PVs that are part of the volume group, hdisk18 show
as status missing. If I try to add this disk to the volume group I
get errors that indicate that it is already apart of the volume
group. What can I do?

Response:

Hdisk18 was available and the VGDA showed it WAS in the Volume Group (VG).
"lspv" showed that it was NOT in the VG. Very likely, this drive was
missing the VG membership for that VG in ODM. I had her run "redefinevg -d
hdisk24 kismetvg" (hdisk24 was in the kismetvg VG, which was the
affected VG). This brought the information back from the VGDA into the
ODM and brought back the drive to the state of being usable and fixed her
problem.

Note, VGDA stands for Volume Group Descriptor Area.
