Problems installing from a remote sysback backup file
Question:
Env:
AIX 4.2.1
RISC 590 (server) 390 (client)
sysback 4.2.1.5
Problem:
Customer creates a system backup to file from a F40 system to the
590 sysback remote server.
The customer then does a network boot and tries to install from that
remote image created on the F40. It produces the messages about
the differences in Hardware between both systems as it should.
The customer chooses the second menu option:
"Change Volume Group and Logical Volume Information"
They make the correct changes and exit out of that menu and
try starting the install. Once again the customer gets the
same Warning messages about the differences in the Hardware.
Action Taken:
It appears that sysback is rereading the vginfo file again and
again from the server.
When doing a network boot and installing from a disk image.
Sysback will reread the disk image again. The file
/tmp/extracted was never created as it should have.
WORKAROUND:
1. Choose the second option "Change Volume Group & Logical Information"
2. Make the needed changes.
3. Goto the Utilities Menu
4. Goto Maintenance Shell Menu
5. echo "File" > /tmp/extracted
6. exit
7. Start the install
This will be fixed with sysback.rte 4.2.1.6
