Response:
Customer is trying to restore one file from a Full System Backup and the
backup it find's the file and restore's the file but instead of the
restore process stopping after it has restored the file, it is just
showing restore complete and it also show's 98% complete.
Customer say's the restore never completes but the file has been
restored.
I am going to research this issue and give the customer a call back once
I have the result's from my research.
Response:
Customer is using a 8mm 5gb tape drive to restore his data from his
tape.
I was able to restore two file's from my directory /home/dsmith and
sysback registered successful and gave me a date and time stamp for
when the backup completed.
I asked the customer if his filesystem he was restoring files from is a
huge filesystem and the customer stated his rootvg is only 400mg.
Sysback still read's through the filesystem even after it has restored
the file's.
tctl status
Block Size 0
I explained to the customer that when you do your backup with a block
size of 512 or 0 for this particular tape drive, it will take longer to
restore your file's.
I am changing my block size to Zero to see if it takes longer to restore
my files and the customer is changing his block size to 1024 which is
the recommended block size for a 8mm5gb tape drive.

Customer's restore process still is showing running and it has restored
the file hour's ago.
mkdirback -f /dev/rmt\# /tmp
using sysrestore syntax to restore a file
Sysback 4.2.1.2
pwd
/tmp
find ./ | backup -ivf /dev/rmt\#
restore -Tvf /dev/rmt\#
restore -xvqf /dev/rmt0 ./ppp
Restored the file ppp and finished.
ps -ef | grep rmt0 --> no processes running against the tape drive
fuser /dev/rmt0 --> "
fuser /dev/rmt0.1 --> "
I am going to research this item a little further with my Developer and
give the customer a call back. I was able to talk with the developer
and he suggested I use the sbread syntax to see if it continues to run
or if it complete's. He suggest's their may be a problem with the
version of restore.
I will call the customer back on Monday morning to work on this item
further.
