4-H SCSI/2 RAID adapter, unsupported tape attachment was working

ENV:

8mm and Quantum DLT tape drives

 PROBLEM:
Some tape drives are not being seen on this adapter, while others work fine.

*ACTION TAKEN:

The adapter that these drives are being attached to is a 4-H
PCI SCSI-2 f/w RAID Adapter.  

I found manual 12H1119, on page 1-11 there is a note that says:

SCSI devices other than disk drives are not supported on the SCSI-2
F/W PCI RAID Adapter.

What is confusing about this issue is the fact that some tape drives work when
attached to this adapter, but only disk attachments are supported.
