Cannot configure the xt2 (TCP/IP) interface on my 3rd AIX X.25 adapter
Question:
I have a RISC/6000 running AIX Version 3.2.5. My system has three X.25
adapters. Each adapter is attached to a different provider of packet switching
data network (PSDN) services.
- On the first X.25 adapter, I run HBX-PAD and SNA.
- On the second adapter, we run HBX-PAD and an application we wrote.
- On the third adapter, I want to configure TCP/IP, so I'm trying to
configure the xt2 interface. This is where I enounter problems.
I am trying to follow the steps in the "AIX V3 X.25 Communications Cookbook".
When I try to process the configuration from the TCP/IP Minimum Configuration
menu, I receive a variety of errors such as:
0514-006: x25 interface in an uncertain state ... (problem with the
ODM).
I have also seen a ton of others with these error numbers:
0821-223, 0821-224, 0821-229, 0821-122, 0821-123, 0821-510
No matter what I do, I can't seem to correctly configure xt2. What am
I doing wrong?
Response:
You have encountered a software defect.
For a temporary workaround, you must configure a TCP/IP interface on the
first two cards as well. The first two interfaces, xt0 and xt1, are
just bogus and won't be used. However, you should then be able to configure
the xt2 interface and use it as you need to.
For the fix this particular problem, call AIX Defect Support and ask
for APAR IX24412. However, since you're upgrading anyway, I recommend
that you get the latest X.25 software available. For the latest X.25
device driver, ask for APAR IX42760. For the latest X.25 fixes, ask for
APAR IX41526.
