Question on difference in sizes of LVs and filesystems

Question:

I have a customer that is having a problem with their /usr filesystem.
When they run df, /usr has 380meg in it. When they run lslv hd2, it
says it is 120 PP's or 480meg. What is going on?

Response:

Very likely, they increased the size of the Logical Volume (LV) instead
of increasing the size of the filesystem. Increasing the filesystem will
automatically increase the size of the LV, not vice versa. I told you
to have them go into SMIT and change the filesystem to match the size
of the LV.

This means that they will need to increase the filesystem to be the
size in 512-byte-blocks of the LV.

120 PP's with 4meg PP's would be 480meg. To be exact, it would be this
size in bytes:

120 PP's * 4096K/PP * 1024bytes/K = 503316400 bytes

The number of blocks the filesystem needs to be in 512-byte-blocks is
983,040

Just change this is SMIT and this will fix the problem.
