What can I do about En on my RANs.

Question:

When I turn on my RANs, I get En on the led displays. Plus, my RANs
aren't defined on my system. What can I do? I also need to know how
to define TTYs to my system.

Response:

The En message on a RAN usually indicates an incorrectly set node
number. To change the node number, do the following:

1. Turn the RAN power switch to ON, wait for the POST to complete.

2. When P1 is displayed on the front panel display, press the left-
arrow button once. The current node number will be displayed; for
example, 1n for Node 1.

3. Press the right-arrow button to advance the node number through the
eight possible settings.

4. When the desired node number is displayed, press the left-arrow
button again to select the number. the display should now read Pn
(pass node). If there was an error, the display will read En (error
node). If you encounter an En, try setting the node again.

We did step through this procedure for each node, and this did solve
your problem. I then stepped you through the process of adding TTYs
to your system. In SMIT, select devices, TTY, Add a TTY. Select
RS232 and the parent adapter for which you want to define the tty.
Then enter the appropriate port number from the RAN. Also select
enable for Enable Login. This did create a TTY.
