0516-044 error when lspv'ing my hdisks

Question:

I am receiving the following error when trying to run 'lspv hdisk0':

0516-044: the write to internal mapfile has failed. Confirm
enough space in /etc filesystem then varyonvg.

Response:

This error usually means there is not enough space in the / directory.
We checked, and removed a number of files, including the smit.log and
smit.script files, and a couple of mistyped tar commands, which wrote to
the /dev dir. We also checked in the /etc/vg directory for any old
Volume Group (VG) files that may no longer be necessary. There was
only one file here. Removing the mistyped tar commands resulted in
reducing the %used in / from 84% to 15%, giving over 55 MB free in /,
but we still got the above error from the lspv commands. The customer
has a large number of Volume Groups (VG's) on the system, and we chose
the following ones to work with initially:

        dolvg: hdisk0, 1, 10, and 32
        rootvg: hdisk2, 3, and 4
        homevg: hdisk5, 6, 7, 8, and 9

We tried the lspv command on the other disks in dolvg, and they all
gave the same error. We then tried it on the hdisks in rootvg, but
those ran fine. Lastly, we tried it on homevg, and all of those
encountered the same problem. I found that there should be a file
in the /etc/vg directory for each VG, and when I removed them
in my testing, I received the same error that you did.

We looked in your /etc/vg directory, and where there was only
one file, the one belonging to rootvg. I had you find the VGid's
for the other VG's you are having problems with using 'lsvg \'
and none of them appeared in the /etc/vg directory. I have found that
when trying to list a Physical Volume (PV) in a VG without a file in
the /etc/vg dir for that VG, you come up with this error. We ran
'lsvg \' for the missing VGs in the /etc/vg directory, and the
files appeared after running this command. We then tried all of the
lspv commands that were causing problems previously and they all
worked fine. This solved your problem.
