Logging and Displaying events in NetView/6000
Question:
Customer needs to configure Netview/6000 for more than 5000
machines. There is an entry in /usr/OV/app-defaults/nvevents called
nvevents.maxLoadEvents : 500 that appears to govern the number of
events. Is this the parameter to change to increase the events displayed
before getting the message?
It is documented that the ovevent.log located in /usr/OV/log will
create a ovevent.log.BAK log when it reaches 128k bytes long. How does one
access the information in the ovevent.log.BAK log?
Answer:
Development provided the following recommendations:
1. Change the nvevents.maxNumEvents : 500 entry in
/usr/OV/app-defaults/Nvevents to a larger number to increase
the number of events that can be logged.
2. There is no correlation between the size of the log
and the number of events to display
3. To read the ovevent.log.BAK file you need to rename the ovevent.log file
and then rename the ovevent.log.BAK file to the ovevent.log file name.
Once that is done you can run /usr/OV/nvela against the file and cause
it to become ascii translated. Once this is completed, rename the
ovevent.log.BAK file to it's original name and then the ovevent.log
to it's original name. Then rename the .BAK log back to the .log
file and the .log file to the original name.
