  AIX 4.2.1
  RISC 590 and J30
  sysback 4.2

Problem:
  remakevg -vf /dev/rmt0 -E -h mod590 sbvg

  It failes with this error message:

  0516-794 mkvg: disk2 is not configured. Please configure
           the disk before trying this command again.


I looked at this code /usr/lpp/sysback/inst/sysinstall

This line:

PVlist=$(print $NEWPVlist | cut -c2-999)
                                         

So it should read this way:
---------------------------

PVlist=$(print "$NEWPVlist" | cut -c2-999)

Note:  I added  "" around  $NEWPVlist
