change use of multiple ssa disks: 1800 051 no disks of this type

Env: 4.2.1.0,  Model: F50-7025

Problem: help configuring raid device.

        We did a smit ssaraid
        change use of multiple ssa disks and got the error 1
        800-051: 1800 051 no disks of this type

Action Taken: We went throught he following:

a) verify adapter type, microcode -> current (3700 )
b) verify disk microcode -> current
c) verify driver levels -> current

        U451617 4.2.1.4 devices.ssa.disk.rte
        U451527 4.2.1.2 devices.pci.14104500.diag
        U451538 4.2.1.2 devices.pci.14104500.rte
        U452325 4.2.1.4 devices.ssa.IBM_raid.rte

d) check the errpt -> any ssa errors -> no
e) run diags against adapters and pdisks -> nothing
f) ran verbose cfgmgr

        remove the ssa hdisks, pdisks, adapters
        cfgmgr -vl ssar 2>&1|tee /tmp/cfg.out
        more /tmp/cfg.out -> no errors.

g) verify the ssa cabling
h) if the mc isn't old, and the drivers are current, and no hw errors
   are reported that require hw support then.

Course of Action:
------------------
a) remove the ssa hdisks, pdisks, and adapters with rmdev -dl...
c) remove installed drivers for ssa
d) reinstall drivers for ssa at base AIX Level (i.e. 4.2.1.0)
   (cfgmgr or reboot)
e) install inhancements to drivers (cfgmgr or reboot)
f) reinstall mc (ssaflash v2.3) (cfgmgr or reboot)
g) if the pdisks don't reapear, call hw support.

        The customer problem was resolved, they could create a raid
        disk without an error

Action Plan:  close
