Need help setting up SLIP connection

Question:

I have set up a SLIP connection between the serial ports on two 3.2.5
RISC machines.  I used a rs232 with an interposer.  When I try to ping
myself with the IP address, I get a "route to remote host not
available" error.

Response:

The SLIP IP address cannot be pinged from the local system. Only the
other end of a SLIP connection can be pinged.
