Problems creating a file system. Not enough resources.
Question:
I am running AIX v3.2.4. I added a hard drive and added a volume
group on it called datavg. This hard drive has 452 PPs on it. I
created a logical volume called hd10 and I made hd10 to be 452 PPs. Now
the system won't let me add a filesystem onto the logical volume hd10.
When I try to add the filesystem, I keep getting:
0516-404 not enough resources available to fill allocation
Why am I getting these errors?
Response:
What had happened was that you took all the room on the hard drive for
that logical volume hd10 and left no room for the jfslog device.
Every volume group has it's own jfslog device for all the journaled
file systems (jfs) on that volume group. With the logical volume hd10
taking all the room, there was no room for the jfslog to be created.
Here is what you need to do:
1. Remove the logical volume hd10.
2. Add a new logical volume hd10 with the maximum of 448 PPs
(Physical Partitions).
NOTE: The extra 4 PPs left over will allow room for the
jfslog and free disk space for future use.
3. Add a filesystem to that previously defined logical volume.
NOTE: The system will automatically create a jfslog device
for use by the jfs filesystems on that volume group.
4. mount \
Your filesystem is now mounted.
