I cannot set SNMP variables using Netview/6000.

Question:

I am using Netview/6000 version 2. RISC 580 @ 3.2.4.
I also have Sysmon/6000 I want to have any machine
that exceeds a certain cpu % active have its icon turn red
(using Sysmon). I am trying to change values in the MIB
database such as the system location. Every time I
try to do either of these I get an error that says
the variable does not exist or is read only.
I am trying to set values in the MIB database through
MIB browser.

Response:

The systems snmpd agent probably has not been enabled to allow writes.
This is done in the file /etc/snmpd.conf.

On the RISC running NV/6000 add new entry similar to the following:

community set ip_address_of_nv6000_system net_mask_of_nv readWrite

On the Risc not running NV/6000 modify the 'public' community as
follows:

community public ip_address_of_nv6000_system net_mask_of_nv readWrite

You will need to enter SNMP configuration from the Options menu of
NV/6000 to update the community name for the NV/6000 system.

Be sure to refresh -s snmpd on both systems.

The 'variable does not exist' error is caused by attempting to read the
CPU Busy MIB on a system that does not have the trapgend daemon or SysMon
installed.
