Problems with HA/NFS

Question:

I have a 340H and a 370 hooked up to a SCSI-2 DE 9334. The
RISC Systems are running 3.2.4 with HA/NFS. The primary system failed
and the backup system did not takeover. The root filesystem on the
primary system is 100 % full. They have a dedicated server/dedicated
backup configuration.

Response:

The HANFS log file filled up the root filesystem. The log file was
deleted. Also, the SLIP IP addresses were configured on the
same subnet as the network interfaces. Changed the SLIP IP addresses
to a different IP subnet. HANFS starts, but fails trying to mount
the file system because it is already mounted. There are users logged
in to the system accessing the shared filesystem.

They are also experiencing the "umount" IX38252 problem in AIX 3.2.4.
When a filesystem fails to umount, any additional umounts will fail with
the same message (of the other /dev/lvname). This fix is included in
3.2.5, the selective fix is U422452.

The shared volume group also needed to be exported/reimported to the
backup system. Once this was fixed, HANFS could takeover and reintegrate
fine.
