CONSULTLINE: Problem using HONE items for sysback/sysrest
Question:
Customer is having problems after a system installation when running the
"sysrest" shell script that was published on the HONE HOWTO items.
The following messages appear when running sysrest:
x /dev/systrace: do not specify an existing file
(several other /dev files with same message)
lvgenminor function failed
updatelv - unable to update logical volume lv00
synclvodm - unable to update logical volume lv00
User has a very old copy of these scripts that attempts to restore the
contents of the /dev directory from the old system. This causes problems
when trying to remote and resync the ODM information in the database.
After checking to make sure there was base rootvg informtion in the ODM
needed to boot the system, we removed the contents of the /dev directory
and rebooted. We then made some changes to their old scripts, removed the
logical volumes from the /dev directory again, and re-ran the sysrest
shell script (this time commented out the restore of /dev).
Still got updatelv/synclvodm errors on lv00. The /dev entry does not
exist for lv00 but does for all other LVs in the rootvg. Ran "savebase",
removed /dev and rebooted the system again.
This time, the /dev/lv00 returned. To check things we ran "synclvodm -v rootvg"
which updated all rootvg information and cleared the errors.
