Can I deactivate internal disk drives and use the RAID?
Question:
I am at AIX 3.2 . I want to deactivate my internal drives and rely
soley on the RAID external disks. How do I do this? Eventually I
want to upgrade to AIX3.2.5. I 'm thinking I can wait to do that.
Response:
It is not possible to boot from the 7135. Thus he will not be able to
rely only upon the RAID disks. Note that the scarray driver is not
included as part of the boot program when booting from diskette or tape
into maintainence mode.
It is possible to add paging, dump, and log logical volumes to the
7135; however, due to the write penalty one may not want to have the
paging LVs on the 7135. A log LV is created for each new VG
automatically. Putting the dump device on the 7135 would waste the
overhead of the parity disk, and it is so infrequently used anyway.
Note that the ROS does not have the scarray driver in it, thus it
can't IPL from the 7135.
