Question:

The RISC System/6000 and AS/400 are attached in a Token-Ring LAN.
At the weekend, the AS/400 is reipl'd. 

Will the "Drop Link on Inactivity" field in the SNA Token-Ring Logical
Link Profile prevent the SNA connections from dropping when the AS/400
is rebooted?

Response:

  To recycle the attachment, the recommended parameter 
  change is "Restart on Deactivation", located in the
  attachment profile.  The 'Drop Link on Inactivity'
  option is intended to conserve resources rather than
  recover from a Host 'vary inact' or equivalent.

  In general, the "Drop Link on inactivity" field
  specifies whether SNA Services/6000 should disconnect
  the remote station if the local station does not
  receive a transmission on the link for a specified
  period of time.  This field will affect system
  performance because each open link uses system
  resources.

  Documentation for "Restart on Deactivation" field is
  located in the /usr/lpp/sna/README file under the
  heading, " Automatically Restarting Attachments after
  Deactivation"
