Help is missing in info and smit
Question:
When I run "info -l techlib", it says that the help database is not
defined. Also, whenever I hit \ in SMIT, it never can find the
help. I am running AIX 3.2.4
I checked to make sure that he was hitting \ in valid places, and
he was. I could find no info in InfoExplorer about where the help is
for info or smit.
Response:
The files /usr/lpp/info/En_US/help/help.key and
/usr/lpp/info/Em_US/help/help.rom must exist in order for InfoExplorer to be
able to find its own help database (these files are the help database for
InfoExplorer).
Help for the smit program is contained in /usr/lpp/info/En_US/aixmin/aixmin.key
and /usr/lpp/info/En_US/aixmin/aixmin.rom.
The directions for the Hypertext Information Base Library direct users to
remove these files when accessing the library from CD, as the files are on
the CD. When AIX Technical Library/6000 moves the mount point for the CDROM
filesystem to /usr/lpp/info/data/techlib, the files are gone. They cannot be
accessed on the AIX Technical Library/6000 filesystem; their position in the
filesystem is hardcoded.
Restore the files from an install tape, or a backup. Future versions of
AIX Technical Library/6000 will contain these files so they can simply be
copied to their correct position in the filesystem.
Also restore /usr/lpp/info/En_US/sys.sys for completeness.
