Wants info on setting up PC commands on aix.

Question:

I have two RISC System/6000 set up to two PS/2's. All are acting as servers
and clients for each other and are connected with TCP/IP and NFS. From the
PS/2 side I can use unix commands but I cannot use pc commands from
the 6000s. What type of software do I need for this and do I have it
already?

Response:

PS/2s are running TCP/IP for OS/2 V2.0, on OS/2 2.1.

TCP/IP for OS/2 has support for telnetd, rshd and rexecd, to allow TCP/IP
clients to telnet into OS/2, run rsh or rexec commands in OS/2 from a remote
TCP/IP host.

Question:

We have telnet from 6000 to OS/2 working, but wonder why it takes so
long to establish a login session.

Response:
I have also encountered slowness to establish
ftp session, and slowness to get an NFS mount on OS/2. Like me, customer
is going to a PS/2 mod 55, wonder if it is just slow performance of a
16Mhz 386sx processor. Telnet from 6000 to model 55 takes about 20 secs
to initialize.

They would also like to know how many concurrent telnet sessions an OS/2
machine can support.

Response:

I could do 9 concurrent telnet sessions into the model 55. Bothersome
that each takes about 20 secs to initialize. Wondered if it was just
a performance issue with the 55 (16Mhz, 386sx).

I now have OS/2 and TCP/IP installed on model 57-059 (20 Mhz 386sx, but
it is the SLC processor, cache on the chip, should be about 2x the
speed of the 55). Telnet from 6000 into OS/2 now takes about 5 secs
to initialize.

Response:
PS/2 model 95 the customer plans to use should be substantially faster than
the 55 they are testing on. Also reviewed syntax and security requirements
for rsh and rexec from 6000 to OS/2.

rexec needs

1) $HOME/.netrc file on the 6000 client, with format like:
    machine \ login \ password \

2) the OS/2 machine must have USER and PASSWD set as environment
variables, either thru the config.sys file at boot time,
or by using the set command at an OS/2 command prompt.

3) at the 6000, run rexec \ \

rsh needs

1) c:/tcpip/etc/rhosts file on the OS/2 machine, with format of
   clienthost clientuser
to allow particular user at particular host to issue rsh command
   to the OS/2 machine.

2) at the 6000, run rsh \ \
